Summary
Provide leadership, coordination, and hands-on oversight of our church facilities. This role helps ensure our buildings and property are safe, welcoming, well-maintained, and ready to support worship, ministry programs, staff activities, and community use.
This position works closely with church staff, volunteers, and external contractors to steward the physical resources of the church in a way that supports our mission and ministry.
Role Focus
The Building Operations Team Lead serves in three key capacities:
Steward
Caring for the church’s buildings and property as resources entrusted by God, ensuring they are maintained with excellence and responsibility.
Coordinator
Working collaboratively with staff, ministry leaders, and volunteers to schedule and prepare spaces, support events, and respond to facility needs.
Manager
Providing planning, oversight, and administrative leadership for building operations, including maintenance planning, vendor coordination, and safety practices.
Key Responsibilities
Facility Oversight & Maintenance – approx. 2 hours/week
Oversee the general condition, cleanliness, and readiness of all church facilities.
Coordinate routine maintenance, minor repairs, and seasonal tasks.
Identify facility needs and recommend repairs or improvements.
Maintain maintenance and inspection records.
Building Use & Scheduling – approx. 2 hours/week
Coordinate facility use for worship services, ministries, meetings, weddings, funerals, and community groups
Work with staff and ministry leaders to ensure rooms are properly set up and restored.
Manage and maintain the facility calendar.
Ensure building access procedures are followed.
Health, Safety & Security – approx. 1 hour/week
Support a safe environment by following safety standards and best practices.
Coordinate basic fire safety and emergency procedures.
Monitor safe and appropriate use of equipment and spaces.
Communicate safety concerns to church leadership or designated teams.
Vendor & Volunteer Coordination – approx. 2 hours/week
Communicate with external contractors (cleaning, repairs, inspections, snow removal, etc.).
Support and coordinate volunteers involved in building care and setup.
Assist with recruiting and equipping volunteers for facility-related tasks.
Administrative Support – approx. 1 hour/week
Assist with facilities-related budget planning and expense tracking.
Provide updates or reports to staff and council as requested.
Maintain documentation related to building use, contracts, and policies.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in facilities management, building operations, or property care
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
Practical, hands-on approach with attention to detail
Comfortable working with staff, volunteers, and external contractors
Basic technical skills (email, digital calendars, documents)
Flexibility to support occasional evening or weekend events
